What this movie is about? Well, there are three key words: life changing transitions, rites of passage, initiation mysteries.
Birth… Puberty… Marriage… Midlife… Death… Our ancestors believed that during all these lifechanging transitions human beings psychologically pass through the lands of spirits, which means we occasionally become significantly more sensitive to unseen, spiritual dimensions.
And this causes some essential impact on our everyday life. We become psychologically more unstable in these particular moments of life. We become more vulnerable. More fragile. More uncertain. It can be frightening. It can be harmful. It is challenging, but it is always a great opportunity. An opportunity to obtain some wonderful wisdom, some unique gift of life.
That is why from ancient times in human societies all over the world some specific rituals, like rites of passage and initiation mysteries were used to maintain these important transitions between one page of life to another.
In my documentary I’m focusing particularly on midlife transition, which is also known as spiritual awakening, and on those initiation mysteries and rituals that were used throughout human history as specific containers for maintaining these significant life changes. The main idea of the movie is to reveal the importance of rites of passage and initiation mysteries as containers of transformation both for society and individuals, and see if we can find some clues of how to renew these important containers and build them back to our culture.
It is shown through the eyes of a small group of people from different part of the world, who are facing some life changing transitions in their lives and are taking an extraordinary journey through the wastelands and jungles in order to participate in an initiation mystery and find some healing from the troubles and issues they suffering in their ordinary lives.
